Vision Primary School Sandakan sends Year 5 student to Nationals

SANDAKAN: Vision Primary School Sandakan has once again demonstrated its exceptional educational quality and the remarkable talents of its students at the 2024 MSS Sabah Chess Selection Camp held at SMK Madai, Kunak.

Four chess players from Vision School Sandakan represented Sandakan in state competition against elite players from across the state. In the end, Year 5 student Lim Shu Zheng emerged victorious, successfully earning the qualification to represent Sabah in the national MSSM Chess Competition.

The selection camp aimed to choose the best representatives for the national MSSM Chess Competition, which will be held from September 14 to 19, 2024, in Johor. Lim Shu Zheng will compete in the U-12 Boys category, and his outstanding performance has brought pride to both the school and Sandakan.
In addition to Lim Shu Zheng, three other talented representatives also performed admirably. They are Isaac Chung Vui Ken (U-12 Boys), Quek Kiing Shing (U-12 Boys), and Christal Glory Christopher (U-15 Girls).

Under the guidance of their teacher, Ms. Jennyfer Jonius, these four students advanced from the Sandakan District competition to the state-level tournament, achieving remarkable results. This success undoubtedly reflects the quality educational standards of the school.

Each state will send their top 6 players in each respective age category to the national competition, meaning that Lim Shu Zheng will compete against the nation’s top young chess players. We look forward to seeing him achieve even greater success at the national level.
